Hello New Banana! You've made it here to learn more about my story I'm Brittany and I've been a "content creator" for the better half of my life. My online career started in High school. I didn't have very many "IRL" friends but my parents had a computer... and a webcam? (No idea where that came from) One day I ended up on a site called "BlogTV" (RIP) I could live stream to random people and make friends online? COOL! I was a teenager... and I remember my first broadcast... I was drinking chocolate milk, and rapping about it. *DON'T JUDGE ME*
I had so much fun, and I guess this was before the "internet troll" was really a thing because everyone was friendly and nice, and I felt like I found a place I could be myself and I truly fit in. With over protective parents that didn't understand the internet at the time, I never was yelled at "to go outside and play" - I spent most of my teen years online, live streaming in my spare time. I had no idea one day broadcasting would turn out to be my career!
Eventually Graduation came and at the time, I had a good following on the BlogTV website - so I reached out to them and asked them to sponsor my "Prom" AND HOLY SHIT THEY DID!! They sent me a prom dress, I live streamed from the reception and prom dinner and I was definitely seen as the weirdest kid there that night. But it was special, because I shared it with my weird online family.
After High School I was taken away from online streaming and brought into the real world. Creating content online wasn't really seen as a legit way to make money in 2007ish so I went to Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario for Performing Arts. I didn't last long. I AM NOT A BALLET DANCER - But the program sure did make me take some classes on it! I dropped out, moved back home and worked towards my next goal... Which wasn't really clear.
I was still live streaming on BlogTV whenever I had the chance but It became difficult with a college internet connection and I couldn't be online consistently anymore. I was working waiting tables, trying to save money and figure life out. When the time finally came, I applied for college again. Mohawk in Hamilton... Nursing Or Radio, lets see what accepts me...
Both? Shit. Radio sounds more fun. Lets do radio.
I'm a quick learner, and after a few classes I picked up on the ins and outs of the business. You basically just needed to be passionate about Radio, and be able to be entertaining (Which was something I was kinda doing already online and people seemed to like) I didn't last long at that school either. Second year I dropped out but I had good reason to. I landed my first full time salary radio gig. On Air, Afternoons On A Pop Music Station? Shit.
Not my favorite kind of music, but who was I to be picky? I took it.
I'd listen to any kind of music all day every day at that point to get out of school. Its not an environment I do well in. So I packed my bags, left behind my family and boyfriend at the time and moved to somewhere called Peace River, Alberta. Sounds Peaceful right? That's because it is. No one wants to live there... It's winter almost year round BUTTTT I wanted to live there! I wanted to live anywhere that would pay me to tell stupid jokes and that's what I did.
After almost a year there I was going a little stir crazy.... I met some comedians and eventually took a chance, left my first gig and decided to work on the road. I helped promote and book the Black Jack Comedy Tour with Matt Billon and the King of Canadian Comedy Mike MacDonald. We bought an old camper van and drove across Canada and the US in it. The tours were a great success and I learned a lot about the entertainment Industry AND myself!
Eventually life happened, through a series of events I felt the need to find my audience again so I searched for my next step. I got back into Radio, but this time in a genre I enjoyed more.... ROCK!
I worked at The Bear in Fort Saint John, BC - I was stolen by the prairies and spent almost two years at The Wolf in Regina, SK before coming back to Ontario to work at HTZ in 2014. It was always a goal of mine in radio to be part of the station I grew up listening to. Not many people can say they got the opportunity to work along side their hero's in the business. After being let go from my job in radio, I'm ready to try something new. My Tuesday YouTube videos are FREE TO MAKE YOU LAUGH - HOWEVER THERE WILL BE EVEN MORE FOR MY WEBSITE MEMBERS!!!
